Why do we wait?

blog Dec 15, 2020

Why do we wait? What are we waiting for? It is interesting to me how people will have New Years Resolutions or goals for "When I turn 40," but they hesitate to make goals on a daily basis. Why not start on a Wednesday? Why do we say "Oh, I'll start on Monday," while we do whatever we want on the weekend. Why are we always waiting to start our diet, exercise, different habits, journaling, reading a book, learning something new? WHY DO WE WAIT?! At some point we won't be able to wait. Because it will be too late. We put off all the things for 'the right time.' Newsflash! There is no 'right time' for anything in life. Plus, 'the right time' is different for absolutely everyone.  I think about this topic a lot. Maybe part of it is because when I was younger my mom would try different diets but the weekends didn't count, but she was back at it on Monday. This was confusing to me because I didn't understand why it was all business Monday-Friday but the weekends was a different story. But, I digress. I think about this waiting topic a lot, and I think about it even more when someone I know passes away. They won't be waiting any longer to begin a new chapter or to start the journey for a new goal. That is part of life. But I stop and wonder if they had done what they wanted. Had they learned to play the violin like they had wanted to? Did they ever write that letter to the friend who they haven't spoken to in years? Did they ever truly stop and tell the people in their lives exactly what they really meant to them? So. Many. Questions. New Years is right around the corner. 2021 I turn 40. The perfect time to start something new. But I have chosen not to wait. I chose my health back in 2019 and it has been a journey. But I was tired of feeling like a stuffed sausage in some of my clothes and guess what, waiting until I was 40 or waiting until January 1 wasn't going to help me. No, I needed to start in July, middle of the year. And guess what, I have had ups and downs, life is a rollercoaster but I didn't stop. I kept going. I took a different path for my health and guess what? I might have to take another path later because that is what life is, adapting to what will help you the most. Think of an animal in the wild. They need to do what they need to do to survive or they die. I guess humans are fortunate because we can think about what we should do, yet never change, and just continue to exist.
